Trail Clearing

UPDATE!  THANK YOU EVERYONE
for a very successful day!

TRAIL CLEARING AT TWO RIVERS!  Bring your chainsaw, handsaw, gloves and muscle and join me at the horse camp at Two Rivers State Park on Sat., April 5 at 9:00 AM.  We will have a couple crews out opening up the trails along the river that have been severely overgrown the last few years.  Let’s give back to the park so we can have a great riding season!  Lunch provided to workers.  Contact Tammy Vasa if you can come so we have a count for lunch.  Call or text 402.416.6835 or email tlvasa@yahoo.com .

Two Rivers is located just 1 mile south of Hwy. 92 off 264th St. west of Omaha.  It is a very popular park for horse trail riders and horse campers.  Join us!

My Dream Home

I picked a bad time to buy a trailer.  November.  What was I thinking?  The cold months had not even started yet.  We brought it home, had one or two day outings and then there it sat in the cold shed while we went to San Diego, while we had Christmas, and saw the New Year in. Once in January or February, I went out to see if I could find something that I may have stored in it and was surprised to find the memory foam mattress frozen!  I didn’t know memory foam froze, did you?

But while I couldn’t camp, I could shop.  This trailer is just about perfect in every way except for the muted tones;  brown, neutral color… dark.  My Sundowner had an off white floor and colored countertops.  It was light and fresh.  This one – while very tastefully done – just lacked color.  It needed some pizzazz.    And anyway, those people on the Horse Trailer Conversion site can’t have all the fun now, can they?

The first thing you see when you walk in the door was the dark brown couch.  I was thrilled that it is not fabric because it makes it much more suitable for my canine companions.

About 15 or so years ago, we were in Mexico where I picked up this blanket.  I tossed it over the couch and it became the focal point of the trailer.  I decided to decorate around those colors.

I started searching for bedspreads with a western or equine theme.  There are a lot in shades of brown!  And microfiber galore!  Microfiber and dogs don’t do well.  Microfiber and hot flashes don’t do well.  I wanted cotton.  Then a friend said about decorating her own trailer, “we already know it’s a horse trailer”, while pondering the bedspread debacle and a light bulb went off that I could go solid color instead.  And I did.  The pillows I found on Amazon – they are the most uncomfortable pillows I could have found – but they match and who sleeps on throw pillows anyway?  (I won’t answer that because I do and I kept my old throw pillow hidden up by the bed for just that reason.)

The rest was just a matter of adding little touches here and there to accent the colors of the blanket.  I found this runner rug online and it costs less than those uncomfortable throw pillows.

My friend, Kathy, bought me the rug with a star for my birthday.  It was one I had already picked out and had in a shopping cart but hadn’t bought yet.  How cool is that?

The handles to the cupboards all have stars on them so the star theme was subtly (or not so subtly) mixed in.  I found the star pillow and the purple pillow at Walmart for $8 each in the teen bedding section.

Speaking of Walmart, I picked up the colored towels there for less than $4.  While I was hanging towels, I found there were no hand towel bars.  So I made a note to pick up a couple – one for the bathroom and one for the galley.

I’ll put a towel ring on that large step where the towel is shown in the picture.  If you look closely, my friend, Lori, gave me the daisy in a bottle of Giddy-Up beer.  Its perfect for this space.

Kathy bought me this picture last fall.  She thought it looked a lot like Fancy and it does.  It has found the perfect place in my dream home.  Fitting, huh?

Now if we could have a break in the weather, it’s time to ride.

The Platte River Riders

(Click on image to enlarge schedule)

The Platte River Riders are riding again!  Most of the area schedules have been published and most rides start on Wednesday, April 2.

NEW FOR THIS YEAR

You may recall NP Dodge Park in Omaha has been closed for a couple years due to the flooding of the Missouri River.  The Omaha group has added it back to the schedule with an asterisk.  While we think the area may be open, we are waiting for confirmation.

The Saunders area schedule has been discontinued and some of those locations have been combined with the Lincoln rides.  We have also added Oak Glen WMA near Garland back into the schedule and hope to explore that area once again.

The North group will start riding on Thursdays, rather than Wednesday, beginning April 10.  Ride Manager Tammy Alexander said there were other area events on Wednesday that conflicted with their riding group and by moving the ride day to Thursday, they hope the North will be well attended by regulars and new riders.

As always, please check our Platte River Riders Facebook page for up-to-minute changes and information.  It can be updated more quickly and on the fly than this web page.  And be sure and post your ride reports and pictures on that Facebook page as well.  It's fun to hear information from all the area Platte River Riders.
If you have any questions, you can leave them in the comments here or post on Facebook.  I am looking forward to a fun, safe riding season with our Platte River Riders!

AS A REMINDER:

All ride managers appreciate participants being saddled and ready to ride by 6:30 PM.  It's a weeknight and we are burning daylight so there is no time to waste for late comers.  It will be up to those who run late to catch up with the group.  This is the best way to manage everyone's time.

DIRECTIONS
Click on the link to Horse Trails and locate the designated trail.  If it is not shown on the list, contact the ride manager for that particular area.

WHY JUST ADULTS?

As a busy working adult and full-time mom, sometimes it's nice to take off the "mom hat" and put on my riding helmet, load up my pony and ride with friends. We want to give you that opportunity, too.  Let’s be selfish and save Wednesdays for the grown-ups.

ABOUT THE PLATTE RIVER RIDERS
There are no dues or memberships. This is just an opportunity to ride together and have fun! The ride starts promptly at 6:30 PM and does not require a trail boss. Those who are saddled and ready to ride will be that night's group. Please be prompt. The group will not wait on late arrivals. Those who are late will have to catch up with the group.

RIDE UPDATES & QUESTIONS
Please visit the Platte River Riders Facebook for updated information about that evening's ride.  This website can't be updated on the fly like Facebook.  That is where you will see announcements for changes in trails, weather updates or cancellations.  No need to contact a ride manager - most any of the regular riders can help answer questions.  However, you can tag any of the ride managers on Facebook for assistance.

If you are new to the Platte River Riders, click over to the PRR tab at the top of this page for more other information on joining this fun adult riding group.
